Marcel's parents Grace & Freddy Ferreira together with family and friends, joined hands in Marcel's memory to try and help other affected children and adults, by raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy.

The muscular Dystrophy Foundation is a non-profit organisation that helps with funding for research and supports people affected with Muscular Dystrophy and Neuromuscular disorders. They assist with specialised equipment, i.e. motorised wheelchairs, respirators and bath hoists which have to be purchased at exorbitant prices, in order to improve the patients quality of life and that of their family and caregivers too.

Although the Foundation's ultimate goal is to find a cure, as they presently provide funding for research in large percentages, most of the funds go towards assisting those affected.

The foundation receives no government subsidy and finds it very difficult to generate funds. They are dependent on events like the gala dinner as well as contributions from the public in an attempt to continue doing the  good work they have been doing for the past 30 years.
